Running Boards and Truck Side Steps

We recommend buying stainless steel or black-textured step bars. Black-coated step bars are a popular option but anything coated is susceptible to chips. The truck side bars are fitted right behind the front tires making them prone to paint chipping. The chips expose the metal to the elements and tend to rust more quickly than stainless steel or black-textured side steps.

Retractable truck steps are designed for maximum convenience, safety, and clearance. Since they retract, these side steps don’t modify the look of your car. The retraction feature also means this is another great option for regular off-roaders. However, retractable side steps also ideal for everyday use because there are many models that feature different step heights.

Oval side bars are also wider than Nerf bars, typically oval step tubes are 4 to 6 inches in width. Oval step tubes are tubular side steps that are similar in shape to Nerf bars. While Nerf bars tend to be sleek in design, oval step tubes tend to be built for heavy duty.
