Protect Your Investment with a Car Alarm or Security System
Your vehicle is one of your most valued assets. By installing a car alarm or security system, you can protect your investment and avoid the hassles and expense of dealing with a stolen vehicle. Older cars are more likely to be stolen than new cars. If you have an older vehicle, adding a car alarm can help to prevent theft.
Although many newer vehicles have technology that prevents the car from starting unless the key is detected, thieves are clever. They still figure out how to steal newer vehicles as well.

Car Alarm Technology in Simple Terms
Once you start researching car alarms and security systems, it can quickly become overwhelming. All of the technical jargon makes it hard for a typical customer to figure out what product is the best fit. Auto One wants to simplify the process and explain things in clear terms.
Here are a few common car alarm features and terms you might hear, and what they mean for you. Click on a letter to jump to that part of the alphabet.
- 1-Way Remote : A one-way is a basic remote that lets you communicate with the car by locking or unlocking doors and disarming the alarm, if it should go off.
- 2-Way Remote : A two-way is a more advanced remote that allows you to communicate with the car and receive information about your car’s condition, such as alerts. Many two-way remotes also have lights that will indicate whether a command has been received.
- Carjack Protection : This is an added feature to prevent carjacking while the car is running. Typically, it combines lights, chirping alarms, and ignition kill switches that prevent a carjacker from taking off with your vehicle.
- Data-to-Data : This technology allows the car security system to seamlessly communicate with the electronics in your vehicle, as well as any sensors or equipment.
- Encrypted Transmission : This feature is intended to prevent hackers from unlocking your car remotely by tapping into your signal on your remote key fob. It ensures your signal is secure.
- Panic Button : This feature is for serious situations. By pressing a button, you can activate your car’s alarm and lights to ward off a potential car thief or scare off a potential attacker.
- Remote Chirp : This is a feature that allows you to easily find your car in a crowded parking lot. If you hit a button on your remote, the car will make a brief sound and the lights may also flash.
- Shock Sensors : These are motion sensors that can detect when your car is jostled or hit and send out an alert. The alert may also trigger the alarm. You can adjust the sensitivity of the sensors to prevent false alarms.
- SmartStart or Smart Phone Compatibility : This means the device is compatible with technology that allows you to perform commands and receive information through an app on your smart phone.
- Transceiver : This is another term for a two-way remote. It is a device that allows you to send commands to your vehicle and receive information back from the vehicle.
